Painter and graphic artist Etienne Bauwens (Aalst, 1930) has donated the logo to the Scheldt National park.
Originally, the drawing appeared on the front cover of a bibliophile edition called “De Schelde” and containing poems of Firmin van der Poorten in 2004.
Etienne Bauwens has created himself the profile of an excellent graphic artist. He has illustrated a great many poems and aphorisms of Firmin van der Poorten. According to one of the poet’s own testimonies, the graphic artist proves to have a strong sense of empathy and a surprising imagination.

This graphic piece of art presents the entire Scheldt landscape’s characteristics: the beauty of nature, the monuments in marvellous landscapes, the undulating water, the well-known ferry boats of the Calm Waters, the avifauna, …For the artist, Sint-Amands on the Scheldt was the source of inspiration.
Since the Scheldt National park came into existence through the policy domains of landscapes and town and country planning, this design fits in quite well. This logo presents the Scheldt National park’s key element: an environment where everyone likes to live, recreate and work. |
