Every organisation needs a mission and a vision. They make up its backbone and its rationale.

A concerted and sustained mission and vision are however not the only ideal concept.
They do not provide an answer to all questions arising within the organisation. Still, they are the guiding principle. They provide so to say the stepping stone to develop a structure. This stepping stone constitutes the Strategic plan wording the short-term as well as the long-term objectives.
Short-term and long-term objectives require well-considered choices to be made. They cannot be defined until the broad outlines have been set. These outlines are the strategic objectives. The latter are concretized in operational objectives visualized by means of a set of actions and projects to be carried out.

Actions and projects are the mission’s and the vision’s visible results. They are the tangible element. They are the indicators on the basis of which an organisation is evaluated.

The IGS-SLP wishes to spread its strategic plan to all of its members and administrations and authorities concerned, and to lobby groups that are active or involved in the Maritime Scheldt valley. The IGS-SLP is one of the numerous players involved in mapping the region on a(n) (inter)national level.

Through specific terms of reference, it may be complementary and consolidating to others. It does not wish to substitute for anyone. It wishes to cooperatie without shielding. Its integrated approach and the support it receives from local authorities allow it to build a livable “landscape” in all of its facets.
